What are the visual tell-tales that indicate the type of phase plug on these speakers as PPs usually don't show in pics?

You can usually go by date of manufacture as well but that isn't always going to be true as Altec used whatever they had on hand at times.

I say get one of each and tell us if there is a difference between the tangerine and slot phase plug. Eventually, if you have to, find a matching pair of the one or the other and sell the orphan or convert it into a center channel.

I have been thinking about buying a tangerine 604g also. At least it would double my chances of finding a mate for one of them!

It would be much easier for me to get a pair of 604e. Problem is I have a pair of model 17 cabs I want to use. Front mount 16" woofers only

Gasketed baffle adapter with webbing reliefs [notches] and thick gasket works. Alternatively, add on baffle for rear mounting 'spaced up' on a 'bed' of inexpensive decorative cork panels.
